Layers

Layers stack your drawing passes on top of each other. The panel lists them top to bottom, and everything you draw lands on the active layer.

Add a layer

A new empty layer appears above the active one, ready to draw on.

Remove a layer

Deletes the layer and everything on it. There is no undo for a removed layer, so double-check first.

Rename

Give layers names that mean something, like arcs, notes, or breakdown.

Recolor

Each layer has its own color chip. Color coding keeps passes easy to tell apart at a glance.

Opacity

Fade a whole layer to ghost marks underneath it or over the footage.

Visibility

Hide a layer without deleting it. Hidden layers do not show and are not drawn on.

The active layer

The highlighted layer in the panel is the one you draw on. Click another layer to switch. The timeline dots show which frames have content on the active layer, so you can see where work exists at a glance.

Docking the panel

Like the toolbar, the layers panel docks to any edge or floats freely. Drag its grip to move it, and use the View menu to hide or show it.
