Onion skin
Onion skin shows faint copies of the frames around the one you are working on. It is the classic way to keep your arcs and spacing consistent when you draw frame by frame.
Controls
Onion skin toggle
Turn the ghost frames on and off from the View menu or the timeline controls.
Radius
How many frames before and after the current one are ghosted.
Opacity
How strong the ghosts appear. High values are good for tracing, low values for a light sense of motion.
Previous and next colors
The ghosts behind the current frame can use one color and the ones ahead another, so you always know which direction a pose is moving.
How it reads
Ghosts are drawn in front of the video but behind your current frame. They only show strokes from your own layers, never the footage itself, so the video stays the ground truth.
Tips
- Keep the radius at 1 or 2 for breakdowns, and raise it when you are checking spacing across a whole move.
- Use different colors for the frames before and after so you can read the direction of motion instantly.
