Video

Opening a video

Open a video from the quick bar or the File menu. On the desktop app you get the native file picker. In the browser you get the system file dialog as well. The video is read from your machine and stays there.

Supported formats

FrameSketch accepts the formats your browser or desktop webview can actually decode:

  • MP4
  • MOV
  • M4V
  • WebM

MP4, MOV, and M4V (H.264) play on every platform. WebM plays on Windows, Linux, and Chromium-based browsers; on macOS, use MP4 or MOV. If a file does not open, convert it once to H.264 MP4 and it will play anywhere.

Video controls

  • Visibility. Hide the video entirely to review only your lines.
  • Opacity. Fade the footage down so your strokes stand out, or up when you need to trace.
  • Zoom. Use the zoom tool (Z), the mouse wheel, or the status bar controls to inspect any part of the frame. Everything stays sharp because everything is vector.

The video stays local

The video file never leaves your machine. Projects save your annotations and reference the video locally, so re-opening a scene brings the footage back with it.
